A new 2015 version of the multifamily tool is now available. The new version is based on the
2009 RECS data, so scores will change some. Over 70% of scores should be lower, although some
scores will go up slightly. The new version is very similar to the 2012 version, and users may
wish to continue using the 2012 version of the tool. The 2012 tool is still available, with links
below the links to the new version.
A new tool for scoring the energy performance of multifamily buildings was released for general
testing by the Energy Performance Measurement Institute (EPMI) on August 1, 2012. The new
tool is a first of a kind directed solely at multifamily buildings that provides a type of external
energy use benchmark of energy performance.
Initial testing has indicated some improvements would be useful, and one calculation
error was found in the August 1 version of the tool. The new version of this tool now
calculates energy use indexes (EUIs), provides approximate target EUIs to achieve
specific performance scores, and corrects the calculation error.
This second version of the tool is released for additional testing and is again provided as
an Excel file.
